Secure Protocol Extension
The extension makes the HTTP and FTP protocols secure using SSL and SFTP encryptions.
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and FTP servers with SSL support can secure transfer data over the Internet.
SFTP (Secure Shell File Transfer Protocol) is a kind of a protocol for file transfer and remote file and folder manipulations. It is part of SSH2 protocol family; however some servers support it even with SSH1. SFTP is not as sophisticated as FTP, i.e. it has less commands and features. It doesn't support passive mode, IPv6, proxy, transfer type selection, transfer resuming, file attributes, VMS OS. So these options specified for source or destination SFTP are ignored.
The SSH private and public keys can be managed by the Certificate Manager.
After the extension is installed the Security mode box in the FTP Account Manager can be set to one of the available values and all data transfer will be performed with the specified encryption. To use a general FTP without security support select NONE in the Security mode box.
Some countries restrict application of software that uses strong encryption. If you intend to use this extension we strongly recommend you to find out your country's legislation on this subject.
