File Backup Automation

File replication and backup frequently require fulfilment of additional or follow-up operations. Usually it is necessary to execute them manually or use various applications, batch files or scripts. For example, you may want to compress file after it has been copied to a backup folder. In order to do this you shall use compression tools which pack the file.

When you use AnyFileBackup for file replication it is possible to automate and simplify backup related operations. You may select certain additional operations like compression, encryption and their combinations from the list ('Additional options' -> 'Pre-processing') as illustrated below:

Compression and encryption in file backup

AnyFileBackup managers operations with archives through the File Compression Extension. It supports such popular and well known archive types as ZIP, TAR, GZ, CAB, etc. You can specify additional parameters if you select 'Pre-processing' -> 'Compression' option:

Thus, every file being copied will be compressed before it is transferred to a backup folder. As it is shown on the above screenshot it is also possible that all the files being copied can be packed to one single archive before replication.

Another unique feature of AnyFileBackup is a file encryption. It is crystal clear that confidentiality of files content is of vital importance especially when you perform replication over the Internet. AnyFileBackup can encrypt the file before copying, preventing unauthorized access to it during replication. Encryption is ensured by File Encryption Extension which supports famous strong encryption algorithms as BLOWFISH, Triple-DES, AES, etc.

It is also possible to combine compression and encryption. Firstly, file is compressed and, secondly, this compressed file is encrypted. This combination allows to decrease file size and ensures that replication is safe.

AnyFileBackup can also perform reverse operations: uncompress and decrypt files and then put them to a destination folder.

As you see AnyFileBackup is a convenient tool for performing important supplemental operations which may accompany backup and replication. More information about pre-processing options may be found in AnyFileBackup manual.
